Through the Ages: A New Story of Civilization is a heavy civilization-building strategy game for 2–4 players, taking approximately 120–240 minutes to play. Designed for ages 14 and up, it challenges players to guide their nations from antiquity to the modern era using deep card drafting, technology trees, and careful resource management.
Build Your Empire Without a Map
Unlike traditional civilization games, there is no physical map to conquer. Instead, you manage your empire on personal boards and draft cards from a shared pool. You must balance food production to grow your population, mine resources to construct buildings, and generate science to discover new technologies. Electing the right historical leaders and constructing grand wonders will grant powerful bonuses, while your ultimate victory is determined by the culture your civilization generates by the end of the modern age.
The Balance of Military Power
While you cannot lose territory, neglecting your military is a dangerous path. Players with superior military strength can prey upon weaker opponents—stealing resources, killing leaders, or plundering culture. Striking the perfect balance between civil advancement and national defence is critical to surviving the march of time.
A Refined New Edition
Originally designed by Vlaada Chvátil and published by Czech Games Edition, this edition represents a major redesign of the acclaimed original 2006 release, Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization. It introduces extensive balance adjustments, a streamlined military system, and redeveloped artwork to improve the overall gameplay experience.
This revised edition implements extensive changes to the card pool across all three historical ages and completely revamps how military conflict works. These adjustments reduce some of the original version's harsher elements while retaining the tight, deep strategic decision-making that made the game a modern classic.
