About the Game

Pandemic Legacy Season 2 drops your team into a world already lost to plague. Rather than treating outbreaks, you lead a small band of survivors from a coastal haven, exploring an unknown world, reconnecting cities and delivering supply cubes to keep settlements alive. Every decision permanently alters the game: cards are marked, stickers placed and sealed packages opened as a twisting campaign unfolds across a year of play.

Designed for 2–4 players aged 13 and up, sessions run about 60–90 minutes, with a full campaign spanning 12–24 games. This medium-heavy cooperative legacy game blends action points, hand management and set collection.

Created by Matt Leacock and Rob Daviau and published by Z-Man Games in 2017, Season 2 is a standalone sequel to Pandemic Legacy: Season 1, set decades later. It inverts the original's formula by adding supply cubes instead of removing disease cubes, and the Black Edition shares its contents with the Yellow Edition, differing only in box artwork.

History

Watch: How to play

Rules of Pandemic Legacy Season 2 (Black Edition)

  • Set up the campaign: place the board with most of the world hidden, set supply and plague cubes nearby, deal starting cards and follow the legacy deck's opening instructions.
  • Choose characters: each player picks a character with a unique ability, and places their pawn at the coastal haven.
  • Take four actions per turn: sail or move between cities, deliver supply cubes, build supply centres, recon unexplored regions, or share cards where the rules allow.
  • Draw player cards: after actions, draw two player cards, watching for epidemic-style events that escalate the plague.
  • Cities consume supplies: the infection step drains supply cubes from connected cities; a city with no supplies gains plague cubes instead.
  • Embrace permanence: mark cards, apply stickers and open sealed packages only when instructed — these changes carry through the whole campaign.
  • Win the session: complete the current objectives, such as connecting cities to the grid or keeping settlements supplied.
  • Ending a game: you lose if the player deck runs out or plague overwhelms the network, but the campaign continues across 12–24 games either way.

Strategy

  • Explore early: reconnning new regions expands your options and is usually needed to progress objectives.
  • Keep cities stocked: a settlement that runs dry gains plague, so prioritise deliveries to the emptiest cities first.
  • Build supply centres on key routes: well-placed centres shorten delivery trips and often ease card sharing.
  • Lean on character abilities: plan turns around what each survivor does best rather than duplicating roles.
  • Talk before acting: it is fully cooperative — sequence everyone's four actions as one team plan.
  • Don't hoard cards: hand limits are tight, so spend cards on travel and objectives instead of waiting for the perfect moment.
  • Expect change: new rules and components arrive as the campaign unfolds, so stay flexible rather than locking into one plan.
  • A loss is not the end: the campaign keeps moving after defeat, so treat setbacks as story, not failure.
