Released by Wizards of the Coast in 2021, Strixhaven: School of Mages introduced the Learn and Lesson mechanics and the Mystical Archive, a bonus series of celebrated instants and sorceries. Unlike Draft Boosters, which are tuned for Limited play, Set Boosters are designed purely for opening packs to see what you'll get. This display contains 30 Set Booster packs, each with 12 Magic cards.

History

Strixhaven: School of Mages is a Magic: The Gathering expansion released by Wizards of the Coast in 2021. Set at the most prestigious university for magical learning in Magic's Multiverse, it let players choose one of five colleges and introduced the Learn and Lesson mechanics alongside the Mystical Archive, a bonus series of celebrated instants and sorceries. Where Draft Boosters are tuned for Limited draft play, Set Boosters are curated purely for the excitement of opening packs to see what you'll get.

Rules of Magic the Gathering Strixhaven School of Mages Set Boosters (30 Boosters Per Display)

What's inside: This display holds 30 Strixhaven Set Booster packs of 12 cards each, tuned for the fun of opening packs rather than drafting; each pack includes a card from the Mystical Archive of celebrated instants and sorceries.
Build a deck: Construct a deck of at least 60 cards using lands to generate mana and spells to cast; no more than four copies of any card except basic lands.
Set up a duel: Each player shuffles, draws a hand of seven cards and starts at 20 life.
Turn flow: Untap your permanents, draw a card, then in your main phase play up to one land and cast spells by tapping lands for mana.
Combat: Attack with creatures, the defender may block, and unblocked attackers deal damage to the opponent.
Second main and end: After combat you get another main phase to play lands or spells before passing the turn.
Winning: Reduce your opponent to 0 life, or win if they must draw from an empty library; a typical duel runs about 20–60 minutes.

Strategy

Include enough lands — around 24 in a 60-card deck is a common starting point — so you can cast spells reliably each turn.
Keep a sensible mana curve: mostly cheap spells with a few powerful expensive ones, rather than a deck full of high-cost cards.
Mulligan hands with no lands or only lands; a mix of roughly two to four lands plus spells is usually worth keeping.
Deploy creatures in your first main phase so they can attack that combat if able, and hold instant-speed tricks for after blockers are declared.
Save your removal spells for genuinely threatening creatures instead of spending them on the first target you see.
Try the Learn and Lesson mechanics: Lessons can sit outside your deck for Learn to fetch, adding flexible answers to your game plan.
Treat these as starting guidelines rather than a fixed formula — adjust your land count and spell mix as you learn how your deck plays.

Foils are holding their shape similar to Zendikar Rising (aka better than Kaldheim but not perfect). Really interesting set with a variety of cards on offer. I love the Japanese cards and their art, and it's refreshing to have metallic foil used on cards subtly. If you can pick up a box for under $170 I'd highly recommend it. (05/2021)

I know this set can be a hit or miss but I got some decent cards. I received a 2018 Nicol Bolas as one of the cards from the list in a pack, opened Professor Oynx, Dark Ritual and a few other good cards. Other than that, pretty much a few rares and 5 Legendary creatures including an Elder Dragon. The box was sealed and not tampered with. Would buy it again or an older set. Would recommend the chance, never know what you may find. Happy hunting!
