Watch: How to play

Rules of Magic the Gathering Kamigawa Neon Dynasty Set Booster (30 Boosters Per Display)

  • Open and sort: Each Set Booster holds 12 cards with one to four rares or better; sort your pulls by colour to spot deck-building options.
  • Build a deck: Constructed Magic decks need at least 60 cards with no more than four copies of any non-basic card; each player starts on 20 life and draws an opening hand of seven.
  • Set up: Shuffle, place your library face down, keep your life total handy, and decide who plays first.
  • Turn flow: Untap your permanents, draw a card, then in your main phase play up to one land and cast spells by tapping lands for mana.
  • Combat: Declare attackers, your opponent assigns blockers, then damage is dealt; unblocked creatures hit the opponent's life total.
  • Second main and end: After combat you get another main phase to play cards, then pass the turn.
  • Winning: Reduce your opponent from 20 life to zero, or win if they must draw from an empty library.

Strategy

  • Limit your colours: New decks run more consistently in one or two colours rather than chasing every flashy rare you open.
  • Mind your lands: Around 24 lands in a 60-card deck is a solid starting point for reliably casting spells.
  • Curve your costs: Include plenty of cheap early creatures and spells so you are doing something from turn one, not just waiting for expensive cards.
  • Value removal: Cards that destroy, exile or neutralise threats are precious; save them for genuinely dangerous permanents rather than the first target you see.
  • Don't overextend: Committing every card in hand leaves you vulnerable to board-clearing spells; hold some resources back.
  • Read the set's themes: Neon Dynasty rewards mixing artefacts and enchantments, so look for cards that care about both when choosing what to build around.
  • Trade resources wisely: Blocking to remove an opponent's creature is often worth losing one of yours, but protect the cards central to your plan.
