Gloomhaven (Second Edition) is a heavy cooperative campaign game of Euro-inspired tactical combat for 1–4 players, aged 14 and up, featuring hand management, simultaneous action selection, and grid movement over sessions lasting 60–120 minutes. Players work together to clear menacing dungeons and unlock an ever-branching, persistent narrative.

Tactical Card-Driven Combat

Combat in Gloomhaven is entirely card-driven, avoiding the randomness of dice. Each round, you select two cards from your hand, using the top half of one card and the bottom half of another. The initiative value determines your turn order. Because cards are permanently lost as characters tire or take damage, players must plan their actions carefully to avoid exhaustion before the dungeon is cleared.

An Ever-Changing Persistent World

The game plays out over a massive campaign where player choices directly impact the world. After each scenario, decisions shape the branching storyline, opening up new locations to plunder and altering your reputation. Characters will gain experience, gather loot, and eventually retire, allowing you to unlock new classes with unique playstyles.
