A precision-fit Folded Space insert for Tiny Towns (1–6 players, around 45–60 minutes, medium-light complexity, ages 14+) that stores the base game together with its Villagers, Fortune and Tiny Trees expansions, with trays that speed up set-up and can be used during play.

About the Game

Opening the box to find every piece exactly where it belongs: that is the experience this Folded Space insert delivers for Tiny Towns. Trays lift straight out and onto the table, so set-up and clear-away take minutes instead of a sorting session, and components stay organised throughout play. It is designed for Tiny Towns (1–6 players, around 45–60 minutes, medium-light complexity, ages 14+) and holds the base game plus the Villagers, Fortune and Tiny Trees expansions together.

The trays are arranged in up to three layers, with the player boards, score pads and other tiles stored together, and the wooden master builder hammer resting at one end of the larger card tray. Every tray can be utilised during the game itself.

Folded Space specialises in precisely fitted board-game organisers, and this insert continues that approach, keeping Tiny Towns and all three of its expansions tidy in a single box.

History

Folded Space produces a wide range of fitted box inserts for modern board games, each designed to keep components sorted and streamline set-up and pack-away. This insert was created for Tiny Towns, the 2019 town-building game designed by Peter McPherson and published by Alderac Entertainment Group, and is built to accommodate the game's growth, holding the Villagers, Fortune and Tiny Trees expansions alongside the base game in one organised package.

Watch: How to play

Rules of Folded Space Game Inserts - Tiny Towns

  • Lift the trays straight from the box onto the table; every tray can be used during play to hold resources, cards and tiles within easy reach.
  • Setup: give each player a town board, lay out the shared building cards face up, sort the resource cubes into a central supply, and deal each player a monument card to keep secret.
  • Choose a starting player and hand them the wooden Master Builder hammer (stored at one end of the larger card tray).
  • On a turn: the Master Builder names one resource type; every player takes that cube and places it on any empty square of their own town grid.
  • Whenever the cubes on your board match the pattern on a building card, you may remove them and place that building on one of the freed squares — several buildings may be built at once.
  • Pass the hammer clockwise so a new player names the next resource; play continues until no one can place further resources or build.
  • Scoring: total the points from your buildings and monument, then subtract one point per empty square — highest score wins.
  • Pack away by returning each component to its fitted tray; the insert holds the base game plus the Villagers, Fortune and Tiny Trees expansions in the one box.

Strategy

  • Learn the building patterns early and place resources with a specific building in mind rather than filling squares at random.
  • Corner and edge squares limit your options, so try to keep flexible shapes in the middle of your grid where patterns are easier to complete.
  • Cottages only score if your town can feed them, so pair them with a food-producing building before going all-in on housing.
  • When you are the Master Builder, name the resource that advances your own town most — but check whether it hands an opponent an easy building too.
  • Think about adjacency: some buildings score based on what sits next to them, so plan where a building will land, not just whether you can build it.
  • Your secret monument can be worth building if it suits your layout, but do not twist your whole town around it too early.
  • Late in the game, empty squares cost one point each, so prioritise finishing buildings over starting ambitious new patterns.

This organizer for Tiny Towns is a great purchase and was easy to put together. The directions could have been a tad better, but it all fell into place and made sense as I went along hahaha. This definitely took me a few hours to put together, but when I was done I was happy and loved how it fit everything into the box. I'm definitely happy with this purchase and will buy from this company again.

foam pieces fall apart really easily, to the point i have to rebuild them everytime i take something out of the box. assembly instructions are pretty unclear and difficult to follow. i should’ve just stuck with the insert that comes with the base game
