A Folded Space organiser insert for Stone Age, the medium-light worker-placement game for 2–4 players aged 10+ that plays in about 60–90 minutes. Lift-out trays double as in-game holders, speeding setup and pack-down.

About the Game

Bring order to your Stone Age box: trays lift straight from this Folded Space insert onto the table, so setup and pack-down take minutes and every resource, meeple and marker stays sorted between sessions. The insert suits Stone Age — a medium-light worker-placement game for 2–4 players, aged 10+, playing in about 60–90 minutes — with its dice rolling and set collection supported by play-ready trays. Arranged in up to three layers, the layout nests the dice cup between two filler trays that also hold the first player and mammoth markers. Stone Age is a modern classic of prehistoric tribe-building, and this organiser houses the base game together with Stone Age: The Expansion and The Mammoth Herd in one box. It works equally well with the later Stone Age: Anniversary edition, so upgraded components store just as neatly.

History

Stone Age is a much-loved worker-placement design in which players grow a prehistoric tribe by gathering food and resources, raising huts and developing tools. This Folded Space organiser was created to store the base game together with its expansions, Stone Age: The Expansion and The Mammoth Herd, in a single box.

The layered tray layout also accommodates the later Stone Age: Anniversary edition, so owners of that release enjoy the same fast setup and tidy storage.

Watch: How to play

Rules of Folded Space Game Inserts - Stone Age

  • Setup: Lift the trays straight from the insert onto the table, set out the board, resource areas, civilization card display and building stacks, then give each player 5 tribe members, 12 food and a player board.
  • Worker placement: Taking turns, place groups of your tribe members on board locations — resource spots, the tool maker, the field, the hut, cards or buildings — until all meeples are placed.
  • Resolve actions: Once everyone has placed, take back all your workers in any order and resolve each location, rolling dice for resources (one die per worker, divided by that resource's value) or gaining tools, food track progress and new tribe members.
  • Cards and buildings: Workers on card spaces pay resources to take civilization cards for points and bonuses, while workers on building spaces pay the pictured resources to score building tiles.
  • Feed your tribe: At the end of each round pay 1 food per tribe member (your food track offsets this); shortfalls cost resources or a 10-point penalty.
  • Game end: Play until a building stack runs out or the card display can't refill, then add final scores for buildings, matching civilization card sets, tribe size, tools and food track.

Strategy

  • Grow your tribe early: Extra workers from the hut mean more actions each round, so an early visit or two usually pays off.
  • Build your food track: Raising it via the field removes the constant pressure of feeding your tribe.
  • Grab tools: The tool maker smooths out unlucky dice rolls on scarce resources like stone and gold.
  • Watch the green card backs: Civilization cards with matching backgrounds multiply their value at the end, so collecting a set matters more than taking random cards.
  • Balance placement: Don't stack every worker on one resource — spreading out keeps your options open when other players block spots.
  • Track the building stacks: A thinning stack signals the end is near, so time your final purchases and card plays accordingly.
  • Keep setup tidy: Sorting resources and markers into the insert's trays between rounds makes mid-game restocks and pack-down quick and painless.
