About the Game

Tame the woodland chaos of Root with this purpose-built Folded Space insert. Every faction's warriors, buildings and tokens receive a dedicated tray, many of which can be used at the table, so set-up and pack-away shrink from a chore to mere minutes. The insert serves Root's 2–4 player clashes, which typically run 60–90 minutes at a medium-heavy weight, recommended for ages 10+, with area control, variable player powers and hand management at its heart.

Root was designed by Cole Wehrle and released by Leder Games in 2018, celebrated for giving every faction its own rules and path to victory.

This is a third-party organiser, not a game or expansion. It fits Root plus The Riverfolk, The Underworld, the Exiles & Partisans Deck, the Vagabond Pack and Resin Clearing Markers, arranged in three layers that fill the base game box with the rulebooks. Boards and player boards store separately in an expansion box, and the insert works with either one or four wooden card stands.

History

Rules of Folded Space Game Inserts - Root

  • Unpack: the insert's three layers give every faction a dedicated tray for warriors, buildings and tokens, and many trays can be placed straight on the table during play.
  • Set up: Root plays with 2–4 players in about 60–90 minutes; hand each player their faction's tray and player board.
  • Take turns: on your turn, follow the steps printed on your faction's player board — every faction plays by its own rules, so turn flow differs between players.
  • Act: manage your hand to craft cards, move warriors between clearings and fight dice-based battles to gain control and score victory points.
  • Win: the first player to reach 30 victory points wins immediately, unless a player instead completes a Dominance card objective.
  • Pack away: drop pieces back into their faction trays; rulebooks sit on top in the base game box, while boards and player boards store separately in an expansion box.
  • Note: this is an organiser, not a game — it holds Root plus The Riverfolk, The Underworld, the Exiles & Partisans Deck, the Vagabond Pack and Resin Clearing Markers, and works with one or four wooden card stands.

Strategy

  • Read your whole faction board before turn one — variable player powers mean a plan that suits one faction can fail badly for another.
  • Skim rival faction boards too, so you know roughly how each opponent scores and who is leading the point race.
  • Marquise de Cat: keep your buildings protected and your wood supply flowing; losing early buildings stalls your whole engine.
  • Eyrie Dynasties: add cards to your decree cautiously — an order you cannot carry out causes turmoil and costs you points.
  • Woodland Alliance: spread sympathy where it can survive, and revolt only when you have the supporters and the moment is right.
  • Vagabond: lean on quests and aid for steady points rather than chasing big battles early.
  • Keep cards whose suits match clearings you can use, so you are ready to craft them for points when the chance comes.
  • Use the insert's trays at the table to keep tokens sorted, so turns stay quick and you can focus on decisions instead of digging for pieces.

Hasta día de hoy (noviembre 2022) sirve para organizar todas las expansiones de root en castellano. Hay que usar un poco de cola blanca pero quedan perfectas las cartas y fichas en él. 100% recomendable

You do have to assemble it yourself. The trays have no markings on them telling you which components they are meant for. It doesn't work with the underground duchy expansion. The trays fall apart easily. Overall, average.
