About the Game

Game night in Arkham's cursed streets runs far smoother when every token, card and map tile has its place. This Folded Space insert organises Arkham Horror Third Edition and its Dead of Night expansion, with trays that can be used during play to speed set-up and clear-away. The game itself is a cooperative horror adventure for 1–6 players, typically running 120–180 minutes, with medium-heavy rules recommended for ages 14 and up, combining dice rolling, a modular board and variable investigator powers. Fantasy Flight Games released Arkham Horror Third Edition in 2018 as a streamlined reimagining of the classic Lovecraftian game, built around branching scenarios. The insert's trays stack in up to three layers, with lower trays leaving room for the map tiles, and it can alternatively be arranged inside the Under Dark Waves expansion box, leaving space for Secrets of the Order.

History

Arkham Horror began as a 1987 Chaosium board game inspired by H. P. Lovecraft's fiction; Fantasy Flight Games later reworked the line, releasing the streamlined Third Edition in 2018 with modular map tiles and scenario-driven play. Folded Space's lightweight Evacore foam-board inserts, including this FS-AH3 design, keep the base game and its expansions neatly organised in a single box.

Watch: How to play

Rules of Folded Space Game Inserts - Arkham Horror

  • Set up: choose a scenario, assemble the modular map as directed, select investigators, then place cards, monsters, clues, doom and starting tokens; the insert is an organiser only and does not change the rules.
  • Give each investigator their starting cards and set health and sanity; read the current scenario objective before anyone acts.
  • Turn flow: investigators take turns spending two actions on moving, attacking or evading monsters, gathering clues or researching, resting, trading, or using card and scenario actions.
  • After investigators have acted, resolve that round's game response as the scenario directs: monster movement and attacks, encounters, and mythos effects such as doom, clues or new spawns.
  • Objective: follow the branching scenario cards; collecting clues and completing listed tasks reveals the next part of the mystery.
  • Game end: win by completing the final scenario objective; lose if all investigators are defeated by damage or horror, or if a doom or scenario failure condition triggers first.

Strategy

  • Read the current objective and setup text before acting; side tasks matter mainly when they protect or enable that objective.
  • Build a balanced team with monster handling, clue gathering and support or movement flexibility rather than duplicating one role.
  • If playing solo, consider controlling two investigators so you can cover more of the modular map and react to spawns.
  • Prioritise clues and scenario tasks over clearing every monster; fight enemies that block progress and evade or route around the rest when safe.
  • Watch health and sanity early—rest, retreat or use assets before a hard test or monster hit can knock an investigator out.
  • Stay flexible for the mythos response: avoid ending turns isolated, short on resources, or far from the next likely objective.
