About the Game

The Folded Space insert for Founders of Gloomhaven turns a box of loose tiles, tokens and cards into a neatly organised kit: lift out the trays, set them straight on the table, and the city-building begins in minutes instead of after a long sort. Packing away is just as quick once the game ends.

Founders of Gloomhaven itself plays with 1–4 players, typically runs around 90–120 minutes, and suits ages 12 and up. It is a medium-heavy design built around hand management, tile placement, route building and voting, as players raise a city in the Gloomhaven world.

Designed by Isaac Childres and published by Cephalofair Games in 2018, Founders of Gloomhaven is a standalone game set in the same universe as Gloomhaven, not an expansion. This insert keeps its many components sorted, protected and table-ready.

Rules of Folded Space Game Inserts - Founders of Gloomhaven

  • Overview: a medium-heavy city-building game for 1–4 players (about 90–120 minutes) in which rival founders raise the city of Gloomhaven.
  • Setup: assemble the city board, stock the common supply, and have each player choose a race and take its unique action cards and pieces.
  • Insert tip: the Folded Space trays lift straight out and sit on the table as organisers, so setup and pack-down take minutes rather than a long sort.
  • Turn flow: on your turn, play one action card from your hand and resolve it — building, producing or delivering resources, recruiting, or calling a vote.
  • Following: other players may play a matching card to follow your action, so leading an action can also benefit your rivals.
  • Hand management: played cards leave your hand until they cycle back, so the order and timing of your actions matter.
  • Building and routes: place building tiles into the city and connect them by road; advanced buildings need resources delivered along connected routes, and the producers profit from each delivery.
  • Voting: when a vote is called, players commit influence to decide which prestige building is approved.
  • Objective and end: earn prestige through buildings, deliveries and votes; once the last prestige building available for your player count is completed, totals are scored and the highest prestige wins.

Strategy

  • Learn your race: your unique action cards shape what you do best, so build your early plans around them rather than forcing a generic approach.
  • Think before you lead: opponents can follow your actions, so lead when the action helps you more than it helps them.
  • Plan deliveries ahead: check which resources upcoming buildings will need and secure producers that can connect by road before you commit.
  • Keep money moving: owning well-placed resource buildings pays you whenever others draw on them, funding your later construction.
  • Spend influence wisely: you are unlikely to win every vote, so save influence for the prestige buildings that matter most to your plans.
  • Mind your hand: played cards are gone until they cycle back, so avoid stranding yourself without the action you need next turn.
  • Stay flexible: no single opening guarantees a win — adapt to the tiles, routes and votes that actually develop at your table.
