About the Game

In Chronicles of Crime 1400 you are Abelard Lavel, a knight in medieval Paris whose prophetic dreams let you crack crimes no one else can. Scanning locations, evidence and characters with the companion app, you follow leads, question suspects and interpret mysterious Vision Cards depicting scenes from the past or future. Your uncle, sister and brother lend specialist knowledge, and your faithful dog can trace a suspect from a personal item.

This standalone cooperative deduction game plays with 1–4 players in around 60–90 minutes. It offers medium-light complexity, suits ages 12 and up, and blends deduction, storytelling and app-driven investigation.

Released by Lucky Duck Games in 2020, it opens the Millennium Series, three standalone games spanning 1400, 1900 and 2400 with connecting narrative threads. It keeps the original Chronicles of Crime system while adding Vision Cards, family consultants and the tracking dog, so no earlier game is required.

History

Chronicles of Crime 1400 was released by Lucky Duck Games in 2020 as the first entry in the Millennium Series, a set of three standalone Chronicles of Crime games spanning the years 1400, 1900 and 2400. Each game uses the same app-assisted investigation system with fresh settings and gameplay twists, while offering connecting narrative threads for players to discover across the series.

Rules of Chronicles of Crime 1400

Set up: Open the companion app, choose a Chronicles of Crime 1400 case, then lay out the locations, characters, evidence and Vision Cards as the app directs.
Learn the brief: Read the case introduction together and note the victim, known locations and first leads before scanning anything else.
Act cooperatively: There is no fixed player order; the group agrees on the next lead, then scans the chosen card with the app.
Investigate: Scan locations to search scenes, scan evidence and characters to gather testimony or items, and use what you learn to unlock the next lead.
Use the extras: Interpret Vision Cards as dream clues, ask Abelard's uncle, sister or brother for specialist help, and let the dog trace a suspect from a suitable personal item.
Track the case: Keep notes on names, motives, timelines and contradictions, because the investigation is driven by the links you make.
Finish: When the team is confident, choose the app's solve option and review the conclusion; aim to identify the culprit and key facts rather than scanning everything.

Strategy

Agree before scanning: Because the team acts together, talk through the best lead first instead of scanning cards at random.
Search locations carefully: Inspect each scene thoroughly and record anything odd before moving on; missed details can stall later deductions.
Connect, don't hoard: After questioning a suspect, immediately link new names or items to possible motives, access and timelines.
Treat visions as clues: Use Vision Cards to suggest what to test next, not as proof by themselves.
Match help to evidence: Save family consultations for specialised facts, and only send the dog after you have a personal item that plausibly belongs to the suspect.
Revisit when stuck: If leads dry up, return to earlier locations or characters with new evidence rather than guessing.
Accuse with a story: Before solving, make sure the group can explain who did it, how, and why; if one part is shaky, test it first.

so far we did only 2/4 case and we love it, we play as a couple (i think 2 people is nice but more could be too messy or long) we like the use of the phone / tablet and like the case too. Lovely game who makes us think

Few changes compared to the first version make it interestingly different even though it still continues the same cool idea. Great job!
