About the Game

Ragnarök has come, and your Viking clan has one last chance to earn a place at Odin's side. In a typical game of Blood Rage, you'll draft "Gods' Gifts" cards at the start of each of three Ages, then invade and pillage provinces, fulfil quests, upgrade your clan and clash in epic battles where secretly played cards can overturn raw strength — and where a glorious death can reward you as richly as victory.

The game plays with 2–4 players in around 60–90 minutes. It's a medium-complexity strategy game recommended for ages 14+, built around card drafting, area control, hand management and bluffing, with cards aligned to gods like Thor, Tyr and Loki hinting at different paths to glory.

Rules of Blood Rage - Core Game

  • Setup: assemble the board, place village and Ragnarök tokens, shuffle the three Age decks, and give each clan its figures, ship, board and starting Rage/Axes/Horns.
  • Each Age: draft God's Gifts cards, then take turns spending Rage on one action until everyone passes.
  • Actions: invade empty provinces or fjords, march between provinces, play upgrades, commit quest cards, or pillage an unpillaged village.
  • Contested pillages and battles: total figure strength, then each involved player may add one secret card; losers go to Valhalla, while some card effects reward a glorious death.
  • After all pass: reveal committed quests and score those you fulfilled, then resolve that Age's Ragnarök token and destroy its province.
  • Next Age: return figures from Valhalla, refresh Rage and repeat with the next Age deck as the board shrinks.
  • Objective and end: earn glory from battles, pillages, quests and upgrades; after the third Age, the clan with the most glory wins.

Strategy

  • Draft to support a couple of clear sources of glory, but stay ready to pivot if the cards or province rewards point elsewhere.
  • Don't spend Rage just because you can; keeping enough for a late invade, upgrade or battle card can matter more than one extra move.
  • Match quests to what your position already does, and commit only when fulfilment looks likely before the Age ends.
  • Upgrade with intent: Horns keep more figures on the board, Axes make battle wins pay better, and Rage buys tempo.
  • Before fighting, count visible strength and likely hidden cards; losing a key figure can cost both position and tempo.
  • Pillage for the reward and to remove future options, but avoid starting fights that hand an opponent easy glory or death-trigger value.
  • Watch Ragnarök timing: figures in the doomed province will die, so either profit from that death or move them out in time.
  • In the final Age, favour immediate glory over long-term engine building; there may be no later turn to cash in.
