About the Game

Crack open a pack and every pick feels explosive: Double Masters 2022 is built around a draft experience where premium reprints and powerhouse cards turn up at every pass. In a typical game, two players duel with decks built from their drafted cards, trading creatures and spells until one life total hits zero.

Designed for 2+ players aged 13 and up, games typically run 20–60 minutes at a medium complexity, blending card drafting, deck building and hand management. Each Draft Booster contains 16 Magic cards, including 2–4 cards of rarity Rare or higher and 2 Traditional Foil cards.

Created by Richard Garfield and first published by Wizards of the Coast in 1993, Magic: The Gathering is the original trading card game. Double Masters 2022 continues the Masters tradition of reprinting sought-after cards, doubling down on the original Double Masters formula with extra rares and extra foils in every pack.

Rules of Magic the Gathering Double Masters 22 Draft Boosters (36 Boosters Per Display)

  • What you need: This display contains 36 Draft Boosters. A typical draft gives each player 3 boosters, so one display supports up to 12 drafters; 8 players is the classic pod size. You will also need basic lands, which are not included.
  • Draft setup: Everyone sits in a circle and opens one booster at the same time. Each pack holds 16 cards, including 2–4 cards of Rare or higher rarity and 2 foils.
  • Drafting: Pick one card from your pack, then pass the rest to the player beside you. Repeat until the pack is gone, then open the next pack and pass the other way.
  • Deck building: Build a 40-card deck from your drafted cards plus basic lands — a common split is 23 spells and 17 lands. You may play any number of copies of cards you drafted.
  • Playing a game: Two players start at 20 life with 7-card hands. Take turns playing one land per turn, tapping lands for mana, and casting creatures and spells to attack and defend.
  • Winning: You win by reducing your opponent's life total to zero, or if they must draw a card from an empty library. Games are usually played as best-of-three matches in 20–60 minutes.

Strategy

  • Stay open early: Take the strongest card in your first few picks regardless of colour, then settle into one or two colours once you see which are flowing to you.
  • Watch the signals: If good cards in a colour keep arriving late in a pack, that colour is probably open — move in rather than fighting a neighbour.
  • Creatures first: Limited games are usually won on the battlefield, so favour a solid creature core (often around 14–17) over situational spells.
  • Curve your mana: Draft cards across a range of costs so you can use your mana every turn, and stick close to 17 lands in a 40-card deck.
  • Value removal highly: With extra rares in every pack, opponents will have powerful threats — cheap spells that answer them are premium picks.
  • Synergy beats rarity: A common that fits your deck's plan is often better than a flashy rare that does not.
  • Use your sideboard: Between games, swap in leftover drafted cards that answer what your opponent is doing.
